聽黎明講三更

黎明拍鬼片,其實是很新鮮的話題,他一直拍的都是很「男人」的角色,很正直很直接的那一種,今次反而有另一面的他可以看到,他將會演一個變態佬。本想隨著這個方向跟他談,談到老遠都無所謂,就是想知他會有幾變態,有甚麼樣子的他可以給觀眾看,不過聽他講講下,「立雜」到不得了,請他講回正題的時候,他說電影光說無謂,始終是要睇。

《三更》係一部分享式的電影‥‥‥
你覺得《三更》係一部點樣既電影?
這部電影最大的特色就是形成的架構基本上是三個地方不同文化的一個組合,但這個特色在無形中又會形成一個比較,就是三地電影會直接放於觀眾眼前,韓國與香港,韓國與泰國的比較就會好直接,究竟大家電影的水平,水位去到那裡,相信三地在這裡逃不出這個比較,觀眾真是一次過有眼睇,但是這三個地方的人都不介意去比較,而反之將三個故事合成一部電影展現於人前,我覺得這在精神上已經很有創意,是這部戲的精神所在。尤其是三地導演在各自當地已是一個好成功的例證,根本無需要去證明甚麼,而大家在合作後不介意比較,精神可加。這部電影可比喻作量食分配,大家有心又唔計較就拿自己的「糧食」出來分享,試下大家的品味,對味道既感覺,一部共同分享式電影就出現了。 

Listen to Leon talk about Three

For Leon to film a ghost story, it is certainly a fresh idea. Usually, his role is more " male macho", a very straight forward acting. This time, there is another side of Leon; he will act as a freak. Originally wanted to ask him along that line, even if there is a need to go very far! Really wants to know how freak can he get, what can he offer to the audience. However, the more we talked, the further we went and the contents was getting very messy! When we finally get to the main theme again, Leon then informed us that film is about going to watch it, not talking about it.

Three is a movie about sharing

In your opinion, what kind of a film is Three?

The main feature of this film is a combination of three cultures from three different places. There are a comparison between the three cultures, where the three cultures are shown to the audience at the same time; Korea vs. Hong Kong, Korea vs. Thailand etc. However, comparisons of the three cultures are inevitable. It cannot be avoided. The audience can look at three different cultures at one go. Isn’t this so creative? I think this is the main essence of the whole film. Especially the three directors are so successful in their own countries. There is no need to prove who is better, and there are good spirits of co-operations among the directors. In another words, this film is just like the allocations of food, each individual is not greedy and are willing to give up their own share for the others to try. This is a film about sharing.

你在這部電影的作用是‥‥‥你今次在裡面做的角色,你覺得如何?
我在這部電影的作用是在三個地方不同的文化裡面,我只是做出其中一個地方文化所創造出來對鬼、怪異空間的一種表達方式。黎明今次在入面所做的一個演員已不是以前《甜蜜蜜》的黎小軍,黎小軍是我以前曾經經驗過,我將做回一個與自己好相關的一個角色,而今次在《三更》所做的就與我生活完全沒有關係,所以我首先就是要信自己就是生活在《三更》這個空間裡面,我不把他當成是一個角色,于輝(戲裡角色)就是一個活生生既人,拍的時候我就是他,在這裡生活的于輝,不過你也可以把他當成一個角色。
記得第一次聽陳可辛講這個故事的時候,我想去諗可以怎樣去做這個角色,去諗,去諗,但係這個角色真是無得諗,我要進入這個空間裡面,我才會自然去感受去表達。
至今我拍了兩部片我遇到這種情況,我不會去諗這個角色,一部是《半生緣》,第二部就是這一部,《半生緣》我從來都沒有想過怎樣去做,因為我覺得根本無得諗亦都不能設計,我知道其實這本來就是一本小說,在小說裡你跟其他演員一齊,你根據小說入面人物很自然做出來就得,等同在一個生活的空間,電話響,我走去聽。而今次這部片就是住在入面,每次讀劇本就當成自己在這裡生活,不要當成是刻意去做戲。

你在入面如何過生活?與其他人相處如何?例如曾志偉‥‥‥
我在入面有一個目的,就是怎樣盡快過這五年,我要盡快離開這裡,用盡各種辦法將日子縮短,希望好快可以離開這個住宅,因為我已經不想再住在這裡。其實志偉跟我相對的時候我是絕對唔會告訴他我在做甚麼,我不會跟他排練任何一場戲,因為這部不是一部可以任我去作去加原素的戲,相反志偉有時會同我講,Leon你在屋入面做事,你在專心做自己的事就ok,你不用理我在外面做甚麼,我覺得其實他非常明白這部片跟我,跟于輝的交流是如何,我不想我跟他的交流只是徘徊在「很做戲」的那種做戲,各自各在空間生活,反而感覺最好。

What is your role in this film………. How do you feel about your character in the film?

In this film about three cultures, my role is to bring out the one of the culture. A culture about ghosts and superstition. My role is very different from the role in “Comrades, almost a love story”,  that role was my previous experience. That role was very similar to my real life, however, in Three, the character has no relation to me at all. First of all, I must convince myself that I am the character in Three. I cannot allow myself to treat it as a role as such, because the character Yu Fai, is a living soul. When I am filming, I am Yu Fai. I have fallen into the character. I remember the very first time that Peter has explained the role to me, I tried to think and think how to act that role, but no matter how hard I think, I still cannot portray that role. Thus, I must get into that surroundings before I can feel and act the role efficiently.

This is the second time that I have encounter this problem, not thinking how to act, but just fall into the role. The other film is “Eighteen Springs”.  In Eighteen Springs, I never thought about how to act the role because it  is impossible to think or design. I know that the film is based on a novel. Thus, I am a character in the film. Just follow the character in the novel and just be natural. For example, if the phone rings, I’ll answer, just as simple as that. Just in Three, I just imagine myself living in that surroundings. Everytime I read the script, I imagine myself to be the character, and hence I don’t try to act that role, on purpose.

How do you survive in the film? How about with other people? For example Eric Tsang….

My only purpose there is to pass the five years as quickly as possible. I want to leave that place, that building, because I do not want to live there anymore. However, during acting, I do not tell Eric about how am I going to act. I do not do rehearsals with him at all. Because this is not a film where I can add my own feelings into it. On the other hand, Eric in turn just say to me do my own things in the house is fine, I don’t need to worry about him, or what he does outside. I feel that he really understands the workings of the whole film, how to cooperate. Each having our own space is a much better feeling.

整體拍攝感受?
這部片吸引我的地方始終是合作的模式, Peter (陳可辛)有個故事,而他覺得他的故事好直覺就覺得適合我做,就找我。事實上他自己亦都好多年無拍戲,我指他在香港,這個時刻於我而言我覺得好興奮,我覺得他都會同樣覺得,尤其是埋班拍的時候,感覺會返曬黎,一次過見到好多七年前拍《甜蜜蜜》的朋友,最不同的要算是杜可風,他上一次是一個演員,今次做回他的強項,攝影。 

在怪異空間裡發生最怪的事‥‥‥
拍攝剛開工,大家都不自在,可能大家未能完全進入這個世界,於是齊齊停工,停了一段時間,過了幾日大家感覺「好番」,又再開工,於是就好「鬼」順利。 
「有很多事,我不敢想像!?」

你如何看輪迴轉世、巫術、生死?
輪迴我不敢想像,但我相信這個世界一定有好多我們不敢相信的東西存在。神我就相信有,存在不同地方的神我都會去尊重,因為這是不同地方的人的敬仰,這我覺得是個人修養的一部分,等同尊重不同地方的人一樣,但這並不代表我是迷信。輪迴在年少的時候就成日聽,小的時候都信,但大過後又不會去理,慢慢就遺忘了這個概念,我覺得人死了就消失,巫術我就沒有試過,我不敢講。不過有件事我反而覺得好笑,人深信死後會上天堂,天堂是大家終極最理想的一個地方,但是人基本上又好怕死,但不死又不能去天堂,我覺得好矛盾,不過生死其實都係無得諗,亦輪不到我們諗。

The whole film process….

What attracts me most about this project is the co-operation mode. Peter (the director) told me there was a story in which there is a role that really suits me, thus he asked me would I like to act it. In fact it has been some years since Peter directed a Hong Kong base film.  At the point, I felt very excited. He felt the same way. Especially when we looked at the crew, all the feelings came back. If you have watched “Comrades Almost a love story”, then you will know what I am talking about. The only difference being Chris Doyle, the last time he was an actor, this time he returns to his strongest role- photography.

Strange Happenings

At the beginning of  filming, every one was uneasy. Maybe this is due to the fact that we have not fully indulge into the film yet. Thus, there was a pause. We stopped filming and after a couple of days, every one felt better, thus we began filming again. Everything was very smooth then.

“There are a lot of things, I try not to imagine”

How do you view life after death, witch craft, life and death?

Life after death or reincarnation, I do not try to imagine it. I believe that there are  phenomena’s that we cannot explain. I believe there is a God. I respect different religions. Each region has its own beliefs. This is about personal upbringing or should I say, respect others. It has nothing to do with superstition. When I was young, I heard about reincarnation. I did believe it when I was young, but as I got older, I never thought about it again. I feel that if a person has died, they just disappear. Witchcraft is not something I ever encounter with and I have no knowledge of it at all. However there is something which I find quite humorous. Mankind believes that when they die, they will go to heaven. Thus Heaven is the finale place that we desire. But, mankind is also scare of death. But if you are not dead, you cannot get to Heaven? I find this view very contradictory. But nevertheless, Life and death are not something we can control, thus no point thinking about it.

再講多些‥‥‥
我在這裡說太多如何做這部戲是沒用的,今日我相信我跟觀眾的感覺將會是一樣,我自己都不想聽黎明講他自己怎樣去做這個角色,事前有何準備,要有怎樣的心理狀態,這都是無關痛癢的,今時今日的觀眾,我跟他們都是一樣,鍾意部片先入場,唔會是因為我。我心情好矛盾,電影宣傳是要做,你也為了工作來訪問我,我亦為了專業受電影公司邀請接受訪問,你們是一本電影雜誌,做的以電影為主,但令我覺得好無奈的是電影不是講的,辛苦做一部電影,又俾你們講得乾淨,還有甚麼好看,譬如《鬼眼》講了就真是會不好睇。一部電影成功不成功,不是我今日用口講的問題,完全是要看電影本身與觀察的機緣與它本身自己的實力,我肯定可以話你知這是一部肯分享的電影。 

聽他如此說,又真是有道理!

What I talk about here has little or no help to the film. Today, my stance is the same as the audience. Even myself I do not want to hear about my own voice talking about any particular role. No matter much preparation is done, is not what attracts the public into the film. They will only go to watch the film if they like the film itself, not me. My feelings are contradictory, film promotion is necessary. It is your job to interview me, and I accept the interview because of my professionalism. You are a film magazine, thus your theme is about films. What makes me feel grief is that a film is not about being talked, but rather about been watched. We work very hard to produce a good film and it has been talked about it until there is nothing left to watch! Like the film “The sixth sense”, isn’t it better to be watched than to talk about it? The success of a film is based on its opportunity and based on its own potential, not on how much I praise it. What I can tell  you is this film is about sharing.
